Holiday and relax in a wellness oasis
In the South Tyrolean hotel Hohenwart, the intelligent networked building automation ensures comfort and efficient energy management
In the South Tyrolean four-star hotel Hohenwart in Schenna, near Meran, the six buildings of the complex and the three swimming pools have been interconnected in an intelligent networked wellness oasis by means of the myGEKKO building automation.Recently, the latest installation, an E-mobility charging station for the guests and the hotel’s e-car, has been integrated seamlessly in the “Smart Hotel”.Furthermore,myGEKKO controls the outdoor units, too.The irrigation system for the green areas, including several tanks and water reservoirs, can be controlled with the central control unit as well. This way, it is possible to regulate the required amount of water very accurately. Not a single drop of precious water is wasted.
“Today I cant’ even imagine our facility management without myGEKKO”, says Sepp Mair, managing director of the hotel Hohenwart. For 20 years the wellness hotel has relied on the building automation of myGEKKO for the conversion and renovation of the facilities.“One of the major benefits of ‘our GEKKO’ is the durability and the investment security of the system”, underlines Hartwig Weidacher, CEO of myGEKKO | Ekon GmbH.After the installation, it is possible to integrate several other Smart Home applications at any time using the central controller, explains the Smart Home expert.
Everything under control:energy management, technology, comfort, safety
“We were looking for a solution that could help us to keep the constantly increasing energy costs under control”, says the hotel director Sepp Mair.“With myGEKKO we can record and analyse the energy costs and the consumption. We reduce the costs and nevertheless offer the highest heating, ventilation and air conditioning comfort. For example with the optimization of the peak loads and the optimal use of the self-produced electric energy.” The heating and energy management is an essential aspect in the four-star hotel:The central building automation controls four cogeneration plants, four oil-fired boilers and one gas-fired boiler - located in different buildings.
The employees always have a complete overview of the energy demand and the consumption, which can be optimized at any time – keyword load regulation – saving energy costs and using the self-produced heat or the current in the best possible way.The main building for example houses three boilers and two cogeneration plants, another building, Haus Christine, two boilers, the VistaSpa two cogeneration plants and the Haus Eckhard two other boilers. The different heating rooms are interconnected by means of long-distance heating pipelines, so the heat production can be controlled centrally and according to priorities:for example, using primarily the head produced by the cogeneration plants for the heating of the hotel complex. The energy consumption of the kitchen, the saunas and the conditioning units is logged and controlled centrally as well.
The well-being of the guests in the foreground, smart solutions in the background
This luxury hotel offers its guest a pure holiday and a special wellness experience. To give guests the best possible comfort at any time and in every area of the hotel complex, the central automation controls the wellness rooms and the treatment rooms of the Spa area, too.The same applies to the solarium on the roof, the pools and the ceiling cooling in the guest rooms.Furthermore, the illumination foresees specific lighting scenarios for the common areas, the restaurant and the bar.Even the background music – e.g. In the wellness rooms – can be controlled with the building automation system.
Safety and well-being
To give hotel guests the possibility to enjoy their stay and relax, hotel Hohenwart has implemented high safety standards, which can be constantly controlled and optimized with the myGEKKO.The hotel rooms are monitored by means of the connection to the CISA access system.Malfunctions and alarms, e.g. triggered by unauthorized accesses, are displayed in the central alarm overview on the display at the reception.
The outdoor safety is ensured by ten network cameras; the camera recordings can be viewed on the display at the reception. The access systems of the single buildings with their 35 doors are managed centrally as well. Also the central management of the front doors during the day or the night and the receipt of incoming goods. All accesses to the buildings and the alarms are logged centrally and recorded in a database.
User friendly technology – fit for a smart future
The entire smart hotel can be visualized on a PC.In the hotel complex there are 20 myGEKKO Slides installed. The controller and the buildings are interlinked by means of the proprietary standard Ethernet network.“The connection of all peripheral control units and the visualization of the respective plants allows to correct the possible malfunctions immediately and carry out the required optimizations”, says hotel director Sepp Mair. This is possible thanks to the comprehensive overview and the interconnection of the different appliances, which are controlled by a central control unit, for example for the heating and the air conditioning. What’s more:the global control often allows to identify the possible problems in advance and to react setting specific configurations on the myGEKKO Slide, says the hotelier.“The control panel is simple and clear, and customized optimizations can be carried out without special knowledge”, so Mair. Thanks to the remote control, the system data can be forwarded to the housekeeper or the support for a quick reaction.“This gives us the possibility to implement tailored settings very quickly.” For hotel Hohenwart, myGEKKO isn’t only a sustainable and efficient energy management system, but also a reliable partner, open for future “Smart Hotel” solutions.
